Athens painters art on display at Piedmont College

Known for her mixed-media paintings that combine a bright palette with calligraphy, fabric and graffiti techniques, Vivian Liddell will showcase her work at Piedmont College in Demorest.

Works by the Athens-based artist will be on display from March 7 to April 1 on the ground floor of the Smith-Williams Studios at 568 Laurel Ave.

Originally from Memphis, Tenn., Liddell earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photographic design from the University of Georgia and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She now works from a studio in Athens and teaches painting and drawing at the University of North Georgia.

The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.

Some call it the “best fundraiser in town.” The fourth annual Dancing for a Cause will bring dinner, dancing and competition to the Chattahoochee Country Club on Aug. 26 as 10 local “celebrities” vie for the coveted Mirror Ball . The event, which begins with dinner at 7 p.m. and the show following at 8 p.m., is a fundraiser for three local charities: Gainesville-Hall County Alliance for Literacy, Center Point and Rape Response Inc.
