Washington Isaac Holmes to sing classical and spiritual tunes

An upcoming concert at Piedmont College will feature South Carolina-born baritone Washington Isaac Holmes performing a program of classical and spiritual songs.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, in the college chapel in Demorest. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Piedmont College students, faculty, and staff are admitted free.

Accompanied by pianist Greg Hankins of Athens, Holmes will sing Robert Schumann’s “Dichterliebe” song cycle and works by Jean Berger, Georges Bizet and Hall Johnson. Holmes will collaborate with Piedmont faculty member Jonathan Pilkington on a duet.

As a soloist, chorister and dancer, Holmes has performed across the United States, Europe and Asia, appearing in numerous musical theatre and operatic roles.

Some call it the “best fundraiser in town.” The fourth annual Dancing for a Cause will bring dinner, dancing and competition to the Chattahoochee Country Club on Aug. 26 as 10 local “celebrities” vie for the coveted Mirror Ball . The event, which begins with dinner at 7 p.m. and the show following at 8 p.m., is a fundraiser for three local charities: Gainesville-Hall County Alliance for Literacy, Center Point and Rape Response Inc.
