Elizabeth and David Walker Umberson of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter, Katherine Marie Umberson, to Zachary James Owens, son of Sally Owens of Colorado Springs, Colo.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Bob and Nachiko Cooke of Fort Worth, Texas, and the late Helen and Jack Umberson.

She is a 2006 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2010 from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. She graduated in 2014 from Georgia State University with a master’s degree in health administration and a master’s degree in business administration. She is employed as a business systems analyst at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas.

The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Joy Catherine Day of England and Ruth Gustafson of Eastpointe, Mich.

He is a 2007 graduate of Edgewood Academy in Montgomery, Ala. He graduated in 2011 from Samford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He is employed as a managing consultant at Accenture in Houston, Texas.

The couple plan to wed Aug. 5, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. in Gainesville.
