Traffic was reopened on Dawsonville Highway after a shutdown earlier during rush hour when a construction worker was injured in a fall.

Crews from the Gainesville Fire Department and Hall County Fire Services responded around 4:15 p.m. to the westbound Dawsonville Highway bridge. A worker had fallen approximately 12 feet and was located under the bridge in the safety netting, Gainesville Fire spokesman Keith Smith said in a news release.

Crews used rope rescue rigging to place the worker in a basket for removal. He was raised from under the bridge and lowered onto the eastbound side.

The injured worker was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville in serious condition.
