Fire destroys Mount Vernon home

A 1,300-square-foot home on Mount Vernon Road was completely destroyed by fire Monday, according to Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell.

Fire investigators believe the fire, which caused about $80,000 in damage, was caused by an electrical short, Kimbrell said.

Reports of the fire came into Hall County’s emergency dispatch at about 7 p.m., Kimbrell said. The call came from the homeowner, who was displaced by the fire.

Kimbrell said the homeowner planned to stay with relatives Monday, but would be assisted by the Northeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross today.
