A firefighter who stepped in a hole while fighting a woods fire Saturday was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with an unknown leg injury.

Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said the injury occurred while firefighters were working with rakes to stop a fire that burned 10 to 12 acres of woods and brush at Bennefield Road and Todd Road off Winder Highway.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to get the blaze under control after responding at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters with the Georgia Forestry Commission assisted by plowing a fire break.

The firefighter was being evaluated and treated at the hospital for pain below the knee, Kimbrell said. The full extent of his injury was not immediately known.
