A former Hall County jailer was indicted Tuesday on federal charges accusing him of smuggling suspected cocaine into the Hall County Jail. Austin Herring, 19, of Gainesville was arrested on Feb. 20, following a North Georgia Major Offenders Safe Streets Task Force investigation starting on Jan. 28. In the four-count indictment, Herring is accused of accepting $1,000 to smuggle a quantity of cocaine into the Hall County Jail.
