What was thought to be a boat theft on Memorial Day was actually a civil dispute, but one suspect remains detained after attempting to run from the scene.

Hall County deputies were called to Goddards Ford Road around 12:30 p.m. Monday in what was initially thought to be a car and boat theft. Once there, it was determined to be a civil dispute, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Nicole Bailes.

After questioning, Eric Thomas ran from deputies, who then chased him on foot.

Thomas, 27, of Lawrenceville also provided deputies with a false name due to an outstanding warrant out for him in Gwinnett County. He’s been charged by Hall County with obstruction and false information, and remains in the jail with a $3,500 bond. Bailes said she did not know what charges he faces in Gwinnett County.

The case remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division.
