Dawson County clinches first ever region title, thumps Lumpkin County 41-0

The Dawson County Tigers captured their first region championship in school history with a 41-0 win over Lumpkin County Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

Dawson County senior running back Hunter Mitchell scored four rushing touchdowns (59, 1, 1, 5) to lead the Tigers to the Region 7-AAA Championship.

The Tigers led 21-0 at halftime, behind Mitchell’s 10 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.
Dawson County senior running back Logan Hurst scored the only other touchdown in the first half on a 7-yard run.

The second half started well for the Tigers as they capped a two-play drive with a 38-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Coey Watson to senior reciever Tucker Maxwell.

The Dawson defense shut out its second straight opponent and third of the season.

Dawson County (6-3, 5-1) finishes the regular season with a non-region matchup at Johnson 7:30 p.m. Friday. Lumpkin County (2-7, 0-5) is host to West Hall 7:30 p.m. Friday.
