Townsend wins at powerlifting event

North Hall graduate and member of the Georgia IronDawgs powerlifting team Jacob Townsend took first place in the 181-pound Junior Men's division of the Southern Powerlifting Federation's Georgia State Powerlifting and Bench Press Championship on Sunday.

At 179 pounds, Townsend set a world record with a 600-pound deadlift.

The IronDawgs will compete as a team Saturday at the American Powerlifting Committee Georgia State Open Championships in Athens.
