North Hall softball falls in region tournament

Despite out hitting Class AAA’s No. 2 Walnut Grove, the North Hall softball team lost 4-0 in the first round of the Region 8-AAA tournament Monday at Walnut Grove.

Carly Delong had two hits for North Hall, which had six hits to Walnut Grove’s five. With the loss, North Hall’s season is now complete.

FRANKLIN COUNTY 11, GAINESVILLE 3:
The Lady Red Elephants lost in the first round of the Region 8-AAA tournament Monday at Franklin County.

With the loss, Gainesville’s season is now complete.

DAWSON COUNTY 8, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 0: The Lady Tigers won Monday in the first round of the Region 8-AA tournament at Jefferson.

Jenna Abbott picked up the win in the circle for Dawson County, which plays second-seeded Jefferson at 4 p.m. today in the second round.

Volleyball

CHESTATEE 3, GAINESVILLE 2: Led by Melissa Bailey’s 10 kills and nine aces, the Lady War Eagles defeated Gainesville on Monday at home.

Carly Dale had four kills, one block and two aces, Jennifer Hill had three kills, two blocks and 14 assists and Lindsay Neece had two kills and six blocks for Chestatee.

Also for Chestatee, Sara Beth Tankersley had four kills, seven blocks and three aces, Rebecca Vinke had two kills, two blocks, four assists and three aces and Leah Yates had eight digs and two assists. Chestatee will play at Eastside at 5 p.m. today.

For Gainesville, Anna Walker had eight kills and six aces and Daphne Ragone had nine assists. The Lady Red Elephants (7-15, 1-7 Area 8-AAA) will visit West Hall for a playdate with Walnut Grove at 5 p.m. today.

NORTH HALL 2, FLOWERY BRANCH 0:
Kathryn Bell had 13 assists, seven aces and one kill to lead the Lady Trojans to the win Monday in Gainesville.

Lauren Gregory had two kills, two blocks and four digs, McKenna Rushton had four kills and one block and Tess Patton had four kills and three blocks for Class AAA’s No. 10 North Hall.

Megan Cox added seven digs for North Hall (23-10, 8-0 Area 8-AAA), which plays host to Oconee County and Johnson at 5 p.m. today.

Cross country


SLAVIK PLACES 10TH ON SATURDAY: The Flowery Branch boys cross country team placed fifth overall at the 35th annual Wendy’s Invitational on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C. Kenny Slavik led the Falcons with a time of 15 minutes, 56 seconds for a 10th place finish. Maurice Riden (16:13) and Drew Garland (16:26) were the other top-two finishers for Flowery Branch. The girl’s team was led by Megan Kirk (20:45), Erika Rucker (21:17) and Kayla Robles (21:35).

Flowery Branch will race in the Coach Wood Invitational on Oct. 16 at Gainesville College.
